Frequently Asked Questions

We know the process is important, and we want to answer all the questions we can. Please reach out if you have any more questions.

We raise a wide range of true Yorkshire Terrier colors, including liver, chocolate and tan, chocolate, tan and white, parti, black and gold, and black and tan. The exact color a puppy grows into depends on which parents produced the litter, so we are always happy to talk through what a specific pairing tends to throw.

Every litter is raised right in our home in Warren, Michigan — never in a kennel or a barn. Puppies are underfoot from day one, handled daily and socialized around kids, everyday household noise, and gentle hands, so they arrive at their new home confident rather than timid.

A $2,000 non-refundable deposit reserves your puppy and is transferable to another litter if your circumstances change. The remaining balance — typically $500 to $3,000 depending on the individual puppy — is due before pick-up, before taxes and fees.

No, deposits are non-refundable, but yours is never wasted. If something comes up and the timing no longer works, we will gladly transfer your deposit to a different litter rather than keep you locked into one puppy.

Every puppy goes home with a full vet check, their first round of shots and deworming, and complete vet records. You will also receive AKC registration paperwork, a blanket carrying the scent of mom and littermates, a puppy starter kit, and a head start on basic obedience, manners, and initial potty training.

Yes — every one of our dams and sires is health tested for Patellar Luxation and screened with a DNA Disease Panel before being bred. Several of our dogs carry additional testing on top of that, such as a Full Embark Panel or Wisdom Panel DNA results, which we are happy to share.

We have spent more than 20 years in the Yorkie world, and it shows in every litter we raise. We are a proud member of the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, and our whole focus is breeding the best representation of the standard we can, litter after litter.

Yes, every Motor City Yorkies puppy is registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). Registration paperwork is provided as part of your puppy's take-home packet.

Most families meet us in person right here in Warren, Michigan. We also regularly meet buyers at Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport or in Chicago, and we offer safe drop-off and transport options for families who cannot make the trip themselves.

Yes, we offer safe drop-off and transport options for buyers who are not local. We will work with you directly to figure out the safest, most comfortable way to get your puppy home, whether that is a flight, a meet-up, or a trusted transport service.

The reservation process starts with a conversation — we like to get to know a little about your lifestyle, whether you have kids, how much you are home, and whether you are hoping for a calm snuggle buddy or a playful little shadow, so we can help match you with the right puppy. From there, a non-refundable deposit holds your spot, and we stay in close touch with photos and updates until your puppy is ready to come home.

Yes, we provide a written contract and health guarantee with every puppy, personalized to that litter. If you have questions about the specific terms before you commit, we are always happy to walk through them with you directly.

Our puppies get daily handling and enrichment from the very start, including exposure to a variety of sounds, surfaces, and textures. They are raised around children, socialized with our other dogs, and introduced to people of different ages and appearances so they grow into confident, well-adjusted companions.

Our dedication to the breed is what sets us apart — we work hard to produce the best representation of the Yorkshire Terrier standard we can, and every one of our dogs benefits from years of experience perfecting type, temperament, and health. Every puppy is raised as part of our own family until they are ready to become part of yours.
